There is often a dietary allergy. The most common food allergies are dairy and wheat - these are often the allergy behind nasal congestion. Eat a healthy diet that emphasizes plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables. It is also mildly antiseptic and relaxing for the respiratory system. &lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Ginger - is an excellent anti-inflammatory and anti-catarrhal herb. &lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Astragalus - an immune system enhancing herb which is particularly useful for the upper respiratory passages and also skin conditions.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Tincture for Allergy Remedy&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The following herbs balance the immune function, strengthen the upper respiratory system, reduce inflammation and decrease secretions (improving runny noses, watery eyes and ear congestion).&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;1 1/3 ounces elder tincture&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;2/3 ounces ginkgo tincture&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;2/3 ounces astragalus&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;2/3 ounces liquorice tincture&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;1/2 ounces anise seed tincture&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Combine all of the ingredients and store in an amber glass bottle away from sunlight and heat.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Take 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon up to four times per day.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Hay Fever Remedy&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;To treat and alleviate the symptoms of hay fever the following combination of herbs can be most effective.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;2 parts elder flowers&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;1 part ephedra (ma hung)&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;1 part eyebright&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;1 part golden seal&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;1 cup water&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Combine the herbs. You need about as much of the combined herb as you would for a cup of coffee. Then add the cup of boiling water. Allow this to stand for 10-15 minutes and let the mixture cool slightly. Strain the mixture before you drink it. First of all, you will smoke much less due to the big ordeal just to smoke one cigarette. I doubt it, which is why I think that ads about the dangers of smoking are a waste of time and money. The emphasis should be on getting information out to people about how they can quit if they want to. There are 4 basic approaches to quitting smoking.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;1) Cold Turkey. This approach usually has about a 10% success rate because it requires willpower: the will to quit has to be greater than the will to smoke. If it isn't, this approach will fail. The key ingredient for my own success was that I started a running program at the same time. I didn't know it then, but smokers who exercise while they are trying to quit have a much higher rate of success than those who don't, and the more vigorous the exercise, the higher the success rate. In fact, one study found the success rate to be twice as high for the exercisers as the non-exercisers.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;2) Nicotine replacement therapy. Nicotine replacement therapy or NRT gives the body nicotine via a patch or gum. It prevents the unpleasant physical symptoms associated with quitting and delivers nicotine without the tars, carbon monoxide and other toxic chemicals. After eight weeks of use, 25% to 30% of people remain smoke free at six months. One drawback to this approach is that when users quit using NRT, they're likely to experience the same withdrawal they would have encountered by quitting smoking. Studies also have shown that long-term use of NRT, which is not recommended, can cause unwanted side effects.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;3) Antidepressants. Wellbutrin, formerly known as Zyban, is a non-nicotine-based, prescription antidepressant . It has about a 35% or better success rate in the short term, helping reduce nicotine withdrawal symptoms and the urge to smoke. A new prescription medication, Chantix, works by reducing a smoker's craving and withdrawal. If a person smokes while taking Chantix, it can potentially diminish the sense of satisfaction. It's already been shown to have a 44% success rate after three months. At the one-year mark, Chantix reportedly has a 22% success rate, versus 16% for Wellbutrin.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;4) Alternative therapies. While everyone seems to know someone who successfully used hypnosis, acupuncture or laser therapy to &lt;a href="http://cbadvisor.com/quit-smoking/sitemap.php"&gt;quit smoking&lt;/a&gt;, doctors say research hasn't shown they work. However, that's also what doctors say about taking dietary supplements and herbs. Pharmaceutical companies don't fund research on alternative therapies. The advantage of alternative methods is that they are generally cheaper and seldom have side effects.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Smokers don't quit because the pain of smoking-related diseases is in the future while the pain of quitting smoking is right now. That's why many smokers need some sort of help to reduce withdrawal symptoms if they're going to be successful. There's also no reason that several approaches couldn't be combined: exercise, NRT, and hypnosis, for example. Whatever you have to do to quit, though, is worth it. The role of calcium in preventing these diseases has been well established. To help solve the calcium crisis, a wide variety of calcium-fortified foods and beverages are becoming available. Both the level of calcium added and the specific foods and beverages fortified with calcium are arbitrary. Orange juice, juice drinks, cereals, waffles, snack foods, candy, water, and dairy foods are among some of the foods fortified with calcium. In many cases, relatively high levels of calcium are added. This has led to the question of whether calcium fortification has gone too far.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;What are the functions of calcium?&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Calcium is essential to:&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;maintaining total body health, &lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;normal growth and development, &lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;keeping your bones and teeth strong over your lifetime (they contain 99% of the body's calcium, the remaining 1% is in blood), &lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;ensuring the proper functioning of muscles and nerves, &lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;keeping the heart beating, &lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;helping blood clotting and regulating blood pressure, &lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;metabolising iron, &lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;the action of a number of hormones (particularly those associated with the thyroid and parathyroid glands), &lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;cell structure, and &lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;absorbing vitamin B12.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Calcium deficiency is usually due to an inadequate intake of calcium. When blood calcium levels drop too low, the vital mineral is 'borrowed' from the bones. It is returned to the bones from calcium supplied through the diet. If an individual's diet is low in calcium, there may not be sufficient amounts of calcium available in the blood to be returned to the bones to maintain strong bones and total body health.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;What are the problems with calcium-fortified foods?&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Although there is a need to have an adequate amount of calcium in the diet concerns have been expressed about the large number of calcium-fortified foods and beverages available. These concerns include the following:&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;The use of calcium-fortified foods does not correct the poor dietary patterns of food selection, which are largely responsible for Americans' low calcium intake. Many calcium-fortified foods and beverages such as juices, spreads/margarines, snack foods, and water are not nutritionally equivalent to foods, which are naturally rich in calcium. Also, some people may mistakenly believe that intake of calcium-fortified foods ensures a nutritionally adequate diet. &lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;The increased availability of calcium-fortified foods, many of which contain high levels of calcium, makes it relatively easy to exceed the safety limit or the 'Tolerable Upper Intake Level' of 2,500 mg calcium/day. This is particularly true for groups not actually at risk for calcium deficiency, such as adolescent and young adult males. These groups already meet or are close to meeting their calcium requirements. &lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;Other concerns associated with some calcium-fortified foods and beverages relate to:&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;The unknown level of calcium bioavailability (that is, the amount of calcium, from the fortified food, that the body is able to use). Factors that facilitate the absorption of calcium include:&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;       - vitamin D and Vitamin K,&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;- sufficient hydrochloric acid in the stomach,&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;- small amounts of fat (high fat reduces the availability of calcium),&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;- exercise,&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;- magnesium, and&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;- hormones, including the parathyroid and estrogen hormones.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;If these factors are themselves deficient then the calcium will not be absorbed and will not be available for use by the body.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;Increasing calcium but not magnesium intakes, has caused a nationwide imbalance in optimal calcium to magnesium ratios. Research studies have shown that animals fed diets deficient in magnesium develop skeletal abnormalities, including osteoporosis. When calcium in the body is too high compared to magnesium, excess calcium may be deposited in the soft tissues. This may result in calcium deposits in places such as the kidneys, the arteries and the heart.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;Excessively high intakes of calcium can interfere with the absorption of zinc, magnesium, iron, phosphorus and other nutrients. An increased intake of calcium in the diet increases requirements for magnesium, another mineral important for bone health.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Food, especially food naturally containing calcium, is the first priority in meeting calcium needs. Foods naturally containing calcium provide many other essential nutrients, as well as possibly other health-promoting components, in addition to calcium. Food sources of calcium are leafy green vegetables, root vegetable, salmon, nuts, tofu and broccoli.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;For individuals who, for one reason or another, are unable to eat calcium rich food, calcium-fortified foods and/or calcium supplements in a balanced formula can be consumed to achieve adequate calcium intake. However, these are considered a supplement to and not a substitute for, foods naturally containing calcium. When calcium supplements are taken it is also important to ensure that the calcium is in balance with the other nutrients that are required by the body for the calcium to do its work.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;What are adequate intakes of calcium?&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Adequate Intakes (AIs) for calcium are:&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;500 mg for children aged 1 to 3 years,&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;800 mg for children aged 4 to 8 years,&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;1,300 mg for adolescents aged 9 to 18 years,&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;1,000 mg for adults aged 19 to 50 years, and&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;1,200 mg for adults aged 51 years and older.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The Recommended Daily Allowances  (RDA) are lower than the AIs but many health professionals do not see the RDAs as being sufficient for maintaining health and wellbeing.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Signs of calcium toxicity can include: confusion, slow or irregular heartbeat, bone or muscle pain, nausea and vomiting.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Conclusion&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Calcium is an important mineral for health. It is involved in many functions in the body and there is no doubt that many Americans are not getting enough calcium in their diets. The fortification of foods and beverages with calcium is an attempt to increase calcium intake, however this is a simplistic response to a complex problem and may actually lead to more harm than good. We prefer to stay within our comfort zone and we like to make similar decisions as our closest of friends are making. Peer pressure is a major part in this and often the outcome is that you will be swayed by your friends way of thinking instead of following your own intuitive gut feelings.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The best advice I can offer you is to start stretching your friend boundaries and begin to associate with some non-smokers. This is essential for you to succeed when quitting smoking weed, as you will already have a source of new people to spend time with. If you didnt have any non-smoking friends to spend time with whilst quitting, you will find it increasingly difficult to get out of your old habits.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Once youve got some non-smoking friends by your side, you can then make the move and actually take the steps to quit.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The problem with having lots of smoking friends in the first place is that it is very easy to talk yourself out of wanting to give up. They all smoke and chances are, they do not have the same drive or passion to give up smoking weed. However, you do!&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;You need to make a gradual change of friends from one group to another. You become like your friends, so if you want to be a non-smoker, then spend more time around non-smokers.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;I dont recommend you take a high-almighty approach and tell your current smoking friends that they are no longer good for you and that because you dont want to smoke weed anymore that you can never see them again. If anything, this will work against you and you could end up with no friends at all! Be gradual and gentle with the whole situation and just realise that your interests are gradually changing.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;As a reformed smoker, I still speak to and meet up with old smoking friends who still have their habits. The difference now is that I spend most of my time with non-smokers and only a very small percentage of my time around smokers.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Here are a few practical strategies you can use to avoid spending too much time with your smoking friends: &lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;Instead of making excuses about why you cant spend time with them, make actual plans to do things with non-smokers at the same time you would normally be invited to spend time with your smoking friends. When they ask you what youre up to, you can tell them with confidence that youre doing a different activity.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Leave your smoking friends earlier than you normally would, so that you can begin your transition into spending more time with non-smoking friends.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Suggest to your smoking friends some different activities that they may or may not be interested in doing. This will show them that your interests are starting to differ from theirs and will make the transition much easier.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt; Remember, nothing will ever change for you unless you take action and make those changes a reality. Do what youve got to do and follow your gut instincts with every decision you need to make! Smoking and other habits, some addictions are not uncommon methods of dealing or coping with life and and issues. When your partner finally takes the step to &lt;a href="http://cbadvisor.com/quit-smoking/sitemap.php"&gt;quit smoking&lt;/a&gt; it will either be outright "cold turkey" quiitting without any medications or supplements or it could be any number of methods.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;My partner could not use many of the supplementary patches or gums because of other medical issues which make these methods incompatible. He chose to take a medication called "Chantix." He's been smoking for 40 years and previously attempted quitting with one hypnosis session and lasted smoke-free for four days. Too many people around him at the time of the stop-smoking four day attempt could not tolerate his moods and they told him to start smoking again because he was impossible to deal with.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Fortunately for him, and I'm not sure yet if I'm fortunate, he's got a different partner than before and I am going to keep up my side of the bargain. I am not going to give in and recommend that he smoke no matter what.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;It's been 13 days since he's had a cigarette. These 13 days have been the most challenging 13 days I've experienced in the last decade. At first with Chantix, he smoked and took the medication. After a week of cutting down and the urge to smoke lessening, he stopped the cigarettes completely.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;He is sleeping a lot more. He's yelling , irritable, and nasty during all of his waking hours. I basically told him that I would not tolerate his nastiness. I refuse to allow him to speak to me in such a horrible manner. In the back of my mind I feel he wants to be so ugly with me that I will break down and tell him to smoke. It's not going to happen.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;I am seeing some positive signs, his skin looks better to me already. He's sleeping more and more peacefully. He used to wake up in the middle of the night and choke on phlegm and cough more. That's gone. It did scare us when he woke up in the middle of the night feeling like something was sitting on his chest and he was worried that maybe it was a heart attack . That  feeling on his chest went away.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;What have I done to survive? I have tried some stress relief tactics for myself and for him. First, running away to a resort or spa sounded like the perfect option, but I didn't want to take the days off of work. Instead, I booked a one-night stay at a resort with a big sunken bathtub and bought aromatherapy bath soak and made him soak in the huge tub to relax. Then, I made him float in a pool called a lazy river in which you get on an inner-tube and the water current pushes you without effort around the pool. It's cool and you float and just forget about your problems. He yelled about my booking the resort and finally thanked me after he soaked and floated.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;In fact, I liked those results so much I've booked the resort stay again for another night next week.Vacations, even one-night, two-day get aways help stress . You need some fun. We need to get out of our habits and do something differently.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Next, I went for a pedicure and a massage. If we wants to feel mean, at least I'm going to have pretty toes, a well-exercised body, and less tension in the muscles of my back and neck. Another study found that cognitive-behavioral therapy aimed at changing attitudes about weight promotes smoking cessation by women. Even if we compare their stats with men, well be surprised to know that the guys who smoke are one out of every three. Today, more women die each year from lung cancer than breast cancer, uterine cancer, and ovarian cancers combined. In fact, lung cancer among women is now considered a scourge, killing almost 75,000 in the US last year.
